He also highlighted broader issues affecting the legal field, including constitutionalism, judicial independence, protection of human rights, public confidence in the justice system and the judiciary’s role in promoting accountability, fairness and access to justice.
“Broader issues in the legal field include constitutionalism, judicial independence, protection of rights, public confidence in the justice system, and the judiciary’s role in promoting accountability, fairness and access to justice,” Chibita said.
Associate Professor Helen Musanabera Byamugisha, the university’s Deputy Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration, welcomed the engagement, noting that it provided students, researchers and legal professionals with an opportunity to interact directly with a senior judicial officer on matters of law and governance.
Students, including Beckham Taremwa and Precious Kiiza, praised the session, saying it inspired them and enhanced their understanding of professionalism, discipline and time management in the legal profession.
The Dean of the Faculty of Law, Shallot Kabaseeke, expressed gratitude for Justice Chibita’s visit and highlighted the positive impact of his guidance on mentoring students.
“I want to acknowledge the ongoing support from the university and government, and I call for further assistance to strengthen legal education,” Kabaseeke stated.
The session aimed to deepen students’ understanding of the relationship between legal theory and judicial practice while inspiring a new generation of disciplined and research-oriented legal professionals.
